new beer blog post

Recently, a group of freinds and I went on a road trip from chicago to michigan with the goal of visiting a few breweries that we had not been to before... this first entry is sort of cheating for two reasons- 1st: it's not in Michigan (it's in indiana). 2nd: We go there frequently. I've included it for two reasons though. 1st: this review took place on the way to the michigan breweries. 2nd: this place definitely deserves a review...
so without further ado:

This is a small brew pub located in the heart of an industrial park in Munster, Indiana. You walk into a bar on one side, and a small room with tables on the other.
I recomend sitting at the bar, because you can ask about the awesome brews on the menue, or the awesome food you will see coming out of the kitchen. Their flagship beer is Alpha King (an american style pale ale), but more popular in chicago is the hard to find "Gumball head" american wheat ale (which is quite hoppy)
That fact may sum up Three Floyds presence in the midwest. They're hard to find, small production, a little off the map- but obviously on the ball. Exclusive!

What follows is an almost verbatim transcript of fragments of the conversation that took place
over a few beers at three floyds:

good guest beers-shlenkerla on tap

Myself-
"gold leader"-nice fresh hoppy tangerine aromatic
nice head good pour
chalky body light crispy refreshing
hoppy bitter astringent finish

gold leader is sorachi hops (samurai gazebo was the sorachi hop brew on draft last time I was here)
samurai inspired crisp lager brewed with japanese sorachi ace hops, and a portion of rice
$5 imperial pint 30 IBU 4.5% alchohol

Coffman-
"arctic panzer wolf"
grapefruit grapefruit and more grapefruit
100 IBU 9% massive IPA that will leave your pallet it's hapless victim- scortched earth is the brew policy

jinx proof- extremely grassy earthy minimal hop profile 80% pilsner malt crisp and 8% alchohol.

who are you wearing?- bacon strip tighty whiteys, and arctic panzer wolf dripping down the sleeve of a black hood
y

claudia-
"gold leader"
didnt like it- too hoppy- piney after taste

mandy-
drunk monk cafe-
sour- goes down real easy

galaxy quest- review- bad as bad can be
*what is awesome though, is that they project films on the wall in both rooms of the pub (sometimes good movies, sometimes bad-no sound, of course)

food - Grilled Cheese with "robert the bruce scotch ale catsup". nice spiceyness from the tobasco sauce added. grilled cheese was exotic (possibly from Brazil- but more likely from delaware, which is actually more exotic)

Stay tuned for more from the Chicago Brew Crew....
Next up: The Livery
